Camp Director

Rick Bolus is considered by many to be one of the nation's top prep basketball gurus. It is hard to beat his level of experience considering that he will be entering his 42nd season as a basketball scout and 36th year as an exposure basketball camp director. Bolus has a remarkable dedication to the game of basketball, which is supported by the fact that he attends over 400 basketball games a year. He is no doubt one of America's most active and experienced basketball scouts.

Bolus is a member of the Naismith Board of Selectors Prep Player of the Year. He is also a consultant for several national basketball tournaments, shootouts, and all-star games. Over the years his basketball camps have seen the attendance of more than almost 30,000 players including numerous McDonald's All-Americans and countless All-Staters nationwide. It is also worth mentioning that 3 out of 4 teams in the 2005 Final Four included performances by former "Blue-Chip" campers and 3 former campers were members of the University of Louisville's 2013 national championship team.

Numerous colleges representing all levels of play subscribe to his High Potential Basketball Recruiting Service. Other examples of basketball big names that receive the High Potential newsletters on their desk include Bob Gibbons (All-Star Sports), Clark Francis (The Hoop Scoop) and Jim Haley (USA Today)

Throughout his 40 year career Bolus has either been quoted, mentioned, or highlighted in USA Today, The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Street & Smith, Basketball Times, The Cat's Pause, and several newspapers from across the country. Bolus has also been a free-lance writer for Basketball TimesThe Cat's Pause, and VYPE.

Bolus was recently featured in the book, How to Raise an All-American, authored by high school and college All-American and former NBA player, Devin Durrant. Bolus appeared in 2003 on CNN and CNN Headline News in a feature about NBA star, O.J. Mayo. He has done color commentary for Insight Communications "High School Game of the Week" and has been a guest on many different talk shows throughout the country.

Bolus was a 1972 graduate of Boston College and played for the legendary Chuck Daly who coached the 1989 and 1990 Detroit Pistons to consecutive NBA championships. Bolus was the nation's third leading scorer as a freshman at VMI before transferring to Boston College. He coached high school basketball for 8 years. He has been married for 40 years to Shela Bolus and together they have two children, Chris and Josh.

He was once co-host of a live call-in television show, Full Court Live, and served as player selector for five years for the McDonald's Derby Classic All-Star Game.

He is America's most experienced active basketball scout/camp director. With such an elite basketball resume it is easy to see that Rick Bolus has nationwide influence and is a well-recognized name in the basketball world. Camp Coaches

The camp's league teams will be coached by quality coaches nationwide from the ranks of the NAIA, junior colleges and high schools. Throughout the 35 year history of the "Blue-Chip" Camp, over 25 staff members have become college coaches. Also, we have had several high school coaches who have won state championships and one college coach, Happy Osborne of Georgetown College, who won a NAIA national title.
